Dorothy of Oz Prequel
Issue #2
A new adventure begins

Dorothy of Oz coverWriter: Denton J. Tipton
Art: Blair Shedd, Joana Lafuente
Publisher: IDW Publishing

If you haven’t heard, there is an animated film in the works that tells about what Dorothy finds when she returns to Kansas. Unfortunately, her return home is cut short, as Oz needs her help once more. In this comic, it is the story of what happens, and why Dorothy must make her way back to Oz.

Having not read the first issue, I decided to give this one a try. One, because it was something familiar and yet different. Familiar because like many of us, I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz and enjoyed it, but different as it’s not the type of books I read nowadays. There isn’t much to this book, but for what it is, it was a good read. The artwork is fun and perfect for all ages, and the story doesn’t leave you lost.

The premise is simple, the evil witch had a brother, Jester, and he is seeking revenge on all of Oz. Scarecrow, Tin-Man, and Lion go on a journey to find a way to bring back Dorothy, as she is the only one that can stop Jester. It’s a book that will introduce new characters and keep you entertained. I mean, Scarecrow, Tin-Man, and Lion on an adventure all by themselves, that in itself is worth reading.

All and all, this is a book I would recommend if you are an Oz fan, but also if you are looking for something to share with your kids (or nephews, nieces, grandkids). Good family reading time.
