My family love to read - so I usually buy the book I know they will all enjoy - then my husband reads it, and then it finally goes through our four daughters. By the time a paperback book is used that much, it doesn’t have that much life left in it — a hardback book is too expensive to buy each one - so we are always behind the new ones.
