Gene Simmons: Family Jewels, Season Six, Volumes 1 & 2 are the DVDs based on the A&E reality show based on the lives of KISS guitarist Gene Simmons, his now wife, Shannon Tweed, and their grown kids, Nick and Sophie. This season was an in depth focus on Gene and Shannon’s relationship.
The series started with Gene telling his therapist that Shannon had left him. The rest of the episode chronicled her decision. My heart really went out to her when she cried as she looked at a picture of Gene on the internet with a woman on each arm. She had really reached her breaking point with his behavior.
Later on, he reluctantly started seeing a therapist. At first he was a little rude, but as time went on, he really started to open up and started bringing Shannon in there with him. It was great that they let us in on this because all couples face problems.
I was surprised at how touched I was by this season. I really saw the love this family has for each other. Their lives may not be normal, but their feelings are. In this season, you find out about Gene’s fear of marriage and why he feels that way. There’s also an intervention by his colleagues on how he is treating his future bride. All worth watching.
The theme of this season is family. The Lord knew what He was doing when He gave us our families. We all have different kinds, but at the end of the day, it’s them that you go home to. There’s nothing like it! I’m so thankful to Him for mine!
Definitely check out this season on DVD. It’ll surprise you at just how deep it gets!
