What is it about franchises that I thought I had worn out, changing things up in such a fresh and unique way that suddenly I’m excited to play them all over again? That’s certainly the case with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which after the excellent second game felt stuck in overly familiar rehashes, but now is really doing some cool things. Setting the adventure in the American colonies during the revolution is plenty awesome. I can’t wait to take some of the usual Assassin’s Creed antics into that setting. But even better, this game has naval warfare in it. I know it sounds geeky, but man, I just think that’s too cool. The latest trailer just reinforced my excitement for that particular new wrinkle.
