I don’t know how I missed it. There is a new character on ABC TV’s “Lost” named Charlotte Staples Lewis. I had not even noticed the name and its similarity to the famous Chronicles of Narnia writer, Clive Staples Lewis until I read an article at NarniaFan.com by Paul Martin. Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly noticed it too.
Charlotte Staples Lewis … was … giggly … as she splashed about in the Island’s inland waters. True, the would-be freighter savior (or devil) could have been celebrating the mere fact that she had survived her harrowing arrival. But there was something more to her reaction — something that reminded me of another fantastical tale about an enchanted homecoming. The book is Prince Caspian, by C.S. Lewis, the sequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The story starts with a chapter called ”The Island,” in which the Pevensie kids return to Narnia via a mysterious island marked by ancient ruins and odd creatures. First thing they do: play in the water.
An article in Underwire gives some more possible hints about some of the other names, as well as informing us that the “Oceanic Flight 815 hotline number, 888-548-0034″ actually works. Well worth checking out if you are a huge fan.
