Seven months ago, I had the privilege of of writing an article for Hollywood Jesus about the possible connections between the ABC-TV show LOST and C S Lewis. The show had recently introduced a character named Charlotte Staples Lewis, which was an intentional nod to the author of the Chronicles of Narnia series of books. “Getting Lost In Spiritual Connections” explored the influences Lewis may have had on the show, as well as some of the other source materials the creators of the show have used.
In the coming months, HJ’s Books Editor J. Alan Sharrer and I will be hosting “The LOST Library.” The intention is to examine books which have influenced the writers of the show, exploring their relation to LOST and finding the spiritual connections in them.
A list of books we plan to explore is on the official LOST website on their LOST Book club page. (You may have trouble viewing the books if you use Firefox as your browser, or use an ad blocking program.) The site also has full-length videos of every episode to date (High Speed Internet highly recommended). DVD’s are also available of the first three seasons, and the fourth season will be available December 9, 2008. As I reported earlier this month in the Hollywood Jesus Narnia News Blog, the fifth season is scheduled to begin February 4, 2009.
Next weekend I hope to have a review posted about the book Island by Aldous Huxley. You should be able to find a copy of the book at your local bookstore or library if you would like to read it before then. Be sure to bookmark The LOST Libary and visit us often!
