In a Press Release published yesterday on their website, Beloved Pictures has announced that it has secured the film rights to C S Lewis’s The Great Divorce.
The novel is described by the publisher as “a profound journey through both heaven and hell.” However, the news release avoids the word “hell” in their description, which may give many conservative Christians pause.
An adventure-laden tale in the vein of Lord of the Rings and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, The Great Divorce chronicles one man’s harrowing journey from the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Grey Town to the outskirts of heaven.
The comparison of the book to JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings or even Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia seems a stretch. The Great Divorce certainly could qualify as Fantasy, but it is definitely not about sword fights or mythological creatures.
The story has been assigned to director David L. Cunningham (To End All Wars, The Path to 9/11 (ABC), and Seeker: The Dark is Rising).
The full Press Release can be viewed on NarniaFans.com. It can also be found on the Beloved Pictures website under News (no direct link possible).
